تعد الإصدارات الخاصة عن المبدعين العراقيين، حالة، غير شائعة، مع الأسف، في الخطاب الثقافي المحلي؛ أما الإصدارات التي تتعاطى مع منجز المعماريين العراقيين فإنها قليلة جداً، إن لم تكن نادرة.
من هنا، تنبع أهمية كتاب الصديق "معتز عناد غزوان"، المعنون "سومرية الوطن... في خواطر السنين... قراءة فنية في منجز الدكتور محمد مكيه"؛ إذ يتناول الكتاب سيرة المعمار العراقي المعروف ويقرأ منجزه قراءة إبستمولوجية شاملة، تسعى وراء إظهار المبادئ والقيم الجديدة التي ارتبطت بمنتج هذا المعمار القدير، ومحاولة إيجاد وشائج هذه العمارة مع خصائص الموروث العمراني الإيجابي، الذي تشّكل عبر سنين في نسيج البيئة المبنية المحلية، والتي منها يستقي المعمار معالم عمارته المميزة.
يتوق المؤلف في قراءته الخاصة، والممتعة في آن، لمنجز "محمد مكيه" أن يستقرأ تأثيرات البعد التاريخي للمراحل الزمنية التي مرت بها المنطقة، والتي أثمرت في نتيجتها على إنجازات معمارية مهمة، على صنيع المعمار.
وهذه الإنجازات يعتبرها المؤلف بمثابة الخزين المرجعي الذي يتكأ عليه المعمار في إبداع تصاميمه العديدة ذات المضامين المختلفة، عمارتها التي أثرت بيئة بلده المبنية، كما أغنت بيئة العديد من البلدان المجاورة والإقليمية الأخرى.
ويشير المؤلف في هذا الصدد، إلى جملة من العوامل الإبداعية التي يرى بأنها ساهمت في ترسيخ منتج مكيه الإبداعي، ويحددها حصراً في "البيئة"، ويذكر بأن المبدع ".. ابن بيئته، وابن مكانه، هو منه وإليه.."؛ ويضيف بأن الفنان محكوم بقاعدة ثلاثية الأطراف تسهم في بناء أي تشكيل فني مهم، ويراها بأنها القاعدة المؤسسة للعمل الفني المستند على البيئة بمفهومها الزماني والمكاني، بالإضافة إلى حضور الجمالية.
