لم يتفق لأمر تاريخي أو كتاب سماوي مثل ما اتفق للقرآن الكريم بالبقاء على صورته وبدون أي تغيير. ونظراً لأهميته من جميع النواحي، فقد أخذ علماء الإسلام بالاهتمام به، وحفظه وتفسيره، وقد ألف في تفسير القرآن وعلومه مئات التفاسير من قبل جميع العلماء والمذاهب الإسلامية، فبعض اهتم بتفسير القرآن من الوجهة الفلسفية، وبعض من الوجهة الأدبية، وقسم من الوجهة العلمية، وآخر فسّر بعض آيات القرآن حسب الأحاديث الواردة فيه فقط.
وقد امتاز الإمام الطبرسي-رحمه الله-بتفسيره هذا القرآن، بحيث تطرق للتفسير من جميع جوانبه: أولاً اللغة، ثم الإعراب، ثم الحجة، ثم القراءة، ثم المعنى. وما اقتصر على آراء مذهب دون آخر، بل ذكر آراء جميع المذاهب الإسلامية وعلمائها، فجاء هذا التفسير مميزاً عن سائر التفاسير ومعترفاً به من قبل الأمة الإسلامية. ونظراً لأهميته فقد عكفت لجنة من العلماء والمحققين الاخصائيين على إخراجه بحلته هذه حيث وضعت بعض التعليقات المفيدة، وبعض التعليقات المهمة، وجاء الكتاب خالياً من الأغلاط، ومميزاً من حيث الطباعة والإخراج والتقنية.
