"عُرف علم الأصول بأنه: "العلم بالقواعد الممهدة لاستنباط الحكم الشرعي"، وهذا الكتاب يضم دروس في علم الأصول للفقيه الأصولي والمفكر الكبير الشهيد "محمد باقر الصدر" تدرج في بيان مسائل هذا العلم في ثلاث حلقات متناسقة من حيث المنهج والأسلوب بادئاً في كل واحدة منها بتعريف علم الأصول، ومنتهياً ببحث التعارض في الأدلة .. وكانت الحلقة الثالثة من هذا الكتاب القيم محوراً للأبحاث الأصولية في مرحلة هي من أهم المراحل في الدراسات الحوزوية، لما أودع فيه من بدائع الأفكار، وتحقيقات ونظريات بادر إلى اقتطافها جمع من العلماء .. ومن أولئك الأعلام السيد "كمال الحيدري" الذي تميز عن غيره من العلماء بتحرر الفكر والأصالة في مجال البحث والنقد والتحليل الصحيح لموضوع البحث. فكان هذا الكتاب ثمرة جهد المؤلف والذي يضم أبحاث ودروس لسماحته في شرح كتاب الحلقة الثالثة للسيد محمد باقر الصدر، ألقاها على جمع من الطلبة في حوزة قم المقدسة وجاءت من تحقيق وإعداد السيد "حيدر اليعقوبي".
يقسم "شرح الحلقة الثالثة – للسيد محمد باقر الصدر" إلى مجلدين يضم ثلاثة مباحث وشروحات كثيفة وعديدة. تبدأ بالخصائص العامة لفكر الشهيد الصدر: على مستوى نظرية المعرفة، وعلى مستوى الأصول العقائدية.
جاء المبحث الأول بعنوان "تعريف علم الأصول" وفيه تعريف المشهور لعلم الأصول والإعتراضات الواردة عليه، أما المبحث الثاني فجاء بعنوان "موضوع علم الأصول" وفيه أدلة القائلين بضرورة وجود موضوع لكل علم، ويضم مناقشة السيد الخوئي والشهيد الصدر ثم المبحث الثالث ويأتي بعنوان "الحكم الشرعي وتقسيماته" ويضم الأحكام التكليفية والوضعية، وفيه نظرية المحقق العراقي في حقيقة الحكم، ودليل المحقق الخراساني، ومناقشة صاحب الكفاية ... الخ إضافة إلى نظرية الصدر في الجمع بين الحكم الظاهري والواقعي وتتألف من مقدمات ثلاث ...، ثم نظريته لبيان الفرق بين الإمارات والأصول إلى آخر ذلك من شروحات، وتفصيلات غنية تضمنتها هذه الدراسة المهمة في المسائل الأصولية والتي تجمع أسماء علماء دين يشهد لهم بالفكر الناقد المبني على العلم والدليل الشرعي؛ نذكر منهم إضافة إلى الإمام الصدر: المحقق الأصفهاني، المحقق الخراساني، الميرزا النائيني، السيد الخوئي، وغيرهم ...
