قال شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية - رحمه الله - كما في الفتاوى الكبرى (6/315) "فإن السعي في التفريق بين الزوجين من أعظم المحرمات، بل هو فعل هاروت وماروت، وفعل الشيطان المحظى عن إبليس، كما جاء به الحديث الصحيح".. قلت: ومن ثم كانت تسمية هذا الجزء بــ "أتباع هاروت وماروت" وقد جمعت فيه ما وقفت عليه من آثار وأخبار تتعلق بهذه المسألة الهامة، نظراً لما يحدث في هذا الواقع المعاصر المرير من خراب الكثير من البيوت بسبب هؤلاء الأتباع الأشباح، الذين هم أجسامهم أجسام الإنس، وقلوبهم قلوب الشياطين.
والأتباع يكون أحياناً اتباعاً تاماً قريباً من المطابقة، وأحياناً أخرى يكون على سبيل الاتباع للغاية مع اختلاف الوسيلة والكيفية لتحقيق هذه الغاية، فأما وجه المطابقة، فيكون ريثما يستخدم ذاك المفرق أو المفسد سحراً حقيقياً لإحداث التفريق بين المرء وزوجه، وأما وجه المطابقة في الغاية، فيتحقق بوسيلة سحر البيان أو النميمة،و البهتان لإيغار صدر الرجل أو المرأة، لينثم جدار الألفة والسكن بينهما، وتحدث الفرقة، وهذا الوجه هو الذي فشا وعمت به البلوى وهو المعنى في هذا الجزء.
