يُعدُّ فن الخط العربي فنّاً إسلاميّاً أصيلاً، فهو من صنع الدين الإسلامي لإرتباطه الوثيق بالقرآن الكريم واللغة العربية.
وقد عمد الفنان المسلم أن يجعل للكلمة وظيفة أخرى مرئية، فضلاً عن وظيفتها القرآنية، وذلك يجعل الحرف نفسه مادة زخرفية له مهتمين في آن واحد؛ المهمة التعبيرية والمهمة الزخرفية.
كما أبدع في تحوير الحروف حتى وصل بالكتابة إلى ما يسمى بــ (الرسم المقروء)، وغالباً ما يكون معناها وثيق الصلة بالشكل الظاهر، وهنا يكمن الإبداع.
ونحن نقدم هذا الكتاب في إبداعات خط الثلث للفنان: (أحمد عبد الفتاح البشلي) الذي استطاع بحرفين فقط من حروف خط الثلث أن يكوِّن لوحات فنية رائعة مستوحاه شكلها من المعنى المكتوب بها، وأظهر فيها إيحاءات وتلميحات تدل على ما جاء باللوحة من كلمات وعبارات، وموضحاً كيفية إستخدام هذين الحرفين في عمل اللوحات الخطية الثلثية، وكيفية إتصالهم بالحروف الأخرى لخط الثلث.
