محمد على باشا الكبير.. أسم حفرت حروفه في التاريخ الإنسانى بجناحية الشرقى والغربي.. فلم تستطع السوات أن تهيل على سيرته التراب فتنقضى كما إنقضت العديد من السير. سيرة حافلة بالأحداث الجسام بين حروب و معاهدات وخطوات ثابتة على طريق النهضة. فلا شك أن عهد محمد على كان البوابة التى دلفت منها مصر إلى عصر الحداثة والنهضة، فأحيت ما كان دغن في عهد المماليك ومن قبلهم. عن هذا العهد العظيم وتلك الشخصية العبقرية التى لم تتكر هذا الكتاب الذى يبدأ بتمهيد عن الفترة السابقة لعهدة فى الفترة ما بين 1517م حتى 1802م .. ليتناول بعدها تولية محمد على ورد فعل أوربا على هذا ، ثم تكوينة لدولته وحروبة وظهور المطامع الإنجليزية آنذاك. كذلك يتعرض الكتاب لإستنجاد السلطان ( الباب العالى) بمحمد على وحروبه في اليونان ويستمر الكتاب فى متابعته وتناوله لكل الأحداث التاريخية حتى الوصول إلى السنوات الحاسمة من 1840 وحتى 1849م معلنة نهاية عهد عظيم.
