تميَز تصدّر الست نظيرة جنبلاط (1890- 1951) الزعامة بعد مقتل زوجها فؤاد جنبلاط سنة 1921 بالمحافظة الصارمة على تقاليد الجبل وطائفة الموحدين الدروز من جهة، وبإختراقها الموروث الثقافي في نظرته للمرأة ودورها الإجتماعي، من جهة أخرى.
من هنا، كانت قيادتها السياسية لقصر المختارة نتيجة لعوامل ظرفية وشخصية وعائلية وسياسية.
مرت زعامة الست نظيرة جنبلاط بمرحلتين مفصليتين في تاريخنا الحديث: الأولى رافقت قيام دولة لبنان الكبير وفرض الإنتداب وثورة سلطان باشا، والثانية واكبت العقد الأول من عهد الإستقلال ودولته الناشئة، الأمر الذي يجعل التجربة وإرتداداتها تخترق أسوار الإنقسام التقليدي والذهنية التي حددت الموقف من سيدة قصر المختارة في طائفة الموحدين الدروز.
من هنا، يحاول الكتاب تقديم مراجعة نقدية لتجربة الست نظيرة جنبلاط السياسية، التي استمرت ثماني وعشرين سنة (1923- 1951)، على قاعدة الركائز التي استندت إليها ومواصفاتها وطريقة عملها وتأثيراتها على مستوى العائلة والطائفة والوطن، ومدى تمايز "الزعامة المؤنثة" وإنعكاساتها على النظرة للمرأة ومشاركتها في الشأن العام في مجتمع محافظ بطبيعته.
