أجمل الإمام يزيد بن الهيثم بن طهمان الدقاق- رحمه الله- ما احتوت عليه روايته عن الإمام يحي بن معين - رحمه الله- بقوله : " كل شئ من كلام يحيى فى هذا الجزء سمعته من يحي بعضه، وبعضه سألته عنه وبعضه كان يبتدينا به "كل شئ من كلام يحيى فى هذا الجزء، سمعته من يحيى بعضه، وبعضه سألته عنه، وبعضه كان يبتدينا به"
وهذا كان حال الأخذين عن يحيى أقواله فى الجرح والتعديل، فقد كانت مجالسه يؤمها المشتغلون بهذا العلم، وتتوارد الأسئلة منهم، فيدونون إجابته.
وهذه الرواية إذا قيست بغيرها، تعتبر من الروايات القصيرة، فقد احتوت على سبعة وأربع مئة نص، على الرغم من أن صاحب هذه الرواية بغدادى، ولازم يحي فى العديد من مجالسه.
