تتناول هذه الرواية للكاتب النرويجي "تورفلد ستين"، وترجمها عن النرويجية مباشرة المترجم المصري "محمد محجوب العديد من الجوانب في حياة الملك الإنجليزي "ريتشارد الثالث" والملقب بقلب الأسد لما تمتع به من شجاعة في قيادة الجيوش الأوروبية خلال العديد من الحروب، وبخاصة تلك المعروفة تاريخيًا بالحروب الصليبية. ومن أهم ما تكشف عنه هذه الرواية، بالإضافة للجوانب الشخصية في حياة ريتشارد قلب الأسد ووجود الكثير من المؤامرات حوله من جانب أخيه الأمير "جون" أو الأمير "فيليب" أمير فرنسا وغيرهما،وكذلك تكشف عن الدوافع المختلفة للحروب الصليبية والتي تم اتخاذ الدين ستارًا لها لجلب التمويل تحت إشراف الكنائس الأوربية وحشد أكبر عدد من المحاربين من عامة الشعب المتحمس دينيًا. وتكشف هذه الرواية كيف أن هزيمة ريتشارد والجيوش الصليبية أدت إلى انهيار الكثير من أنظمة الحكم في أوروبا وإعادة موازين القوى في هذه القارة العجوز. إنها رواية تكشف الكواليس التي جاء منها قائد الحروب الصليبية، وكيف تم خلط الدين بالسياسة بالصراعات على الحكم، وكيف تم استغلال حماس وشجاعة هذا الملك المحارب للقضاء عليه، وكيف أنه ذهب للقدس بحثا عن أكاليل الغار وعائد بعار الهزيمة لتتكشف أمامه كل الحقائق والأكاذيب.
