قد اشتمل هذا الكتاب على كل شكل غريب في أوصاف الخمرة والنديم والساقي والمجلس وآدابه والأغاني والملاهي والأزهار والفواكه، أبدع مؤلفه في ترتيبه وكان سمّاهُ أولاً "الحبور والسرور في وصف الخمور" فأنكر بعض الناس عليه، فسمّاه بالحلبة وهو كتاب معتبر عند الأدباء، توفي سنة 859 تسع وخمسين وثمانمائة هجرية.
