دخلت الرافعة الصفراء بعمودها الذي يرتفع عالياً للساحة ووراءها عربة مغلقة النوافذ. والناس تجمهروا. كل من في القرية نزل محمد من سيارة الشرطة معصوب العينين مكبل اليدين وعلى وجه ابتسامة. عنده أمل، وقبل أن يرفعوه ارتفع صراخ الناس "لا تشنقوه عندنا". أرعب الشرطة تجمهرهم وصياحهم والأحجار في أيديهم والعصى. أخذوه ثانية بالسيارة. جواد لم يخرج من البيت، وقال لأخية "لاتقل شيئاً" يهيم في الغرفة ليلاً ونهاراً، يدخن سجائر. يمسح عرقه مغلقاً النوافذ. شعر وجهه يطول، تسعة أشهر لم يتوقف عن التفكير والسفر والتوسط. الرعشة والهمهمة والتأوه في صدره المنتفخ. لن يقهر الدهر. لم ينتصر. ولم يخرج من الغرفة بعد ذلك أبداً ابداً.
