غالباً ما تنشر الحقيقة التاريخية جدلاً بين المؤرخين، بل إنها بقدر ما تكون ساطعة ونافرة بل ومقتحمة، يكون تأثيرها صاخباً، وتكون مثاراً للجدل والجوار والمناقشة، وقد أثار المؤلف في كتابه الأول "التاريخ العسكري" للمقاطعات اللبنانية في عهد الإمارتين: الإمارة المعنية جدلاً بين المؤرخين، فمنهم من قبّله واستحسنه ومنهم من رفضه واستهجنه رافضاً الحقائق التي عرضها دون أن يقدم دعماً لرفضه واستهجانه. ومن وجهة نظره ان الحقيقة التاريخية ليست مطلقة ولا مقدسة إلا بقدر ما تكون مقنعة للمطلع، وثابتة في وجدانه المهني، وهي تظل قائمة ما لم تدحضها حقيقة أخرى تلغيها وتثبت بطلانها، انطلاقاً من هذه المبادئ الثابتة، ومن تمسكه بعملية البحث التاريخي، ووجد أن المؤرخ الذي يسعى إلى الحقيقة عمد المؤلف إلى تقديم هذه الدراسة التاريخية العسكرية الشاملة للعهد الشهابي من القرن الثامن عشر والنصف الأول من القرن التاسع عشر، مقسماً مضمونها على ثلاثة أبواب تبحث في التاريخ العسكري للإمارة الشهابية وفي التاريخ العسكري للمقاطعات اللبنانية وتحليلاً للأحداث الاجتماعية التي جرت في هذه المقاطعات وفي الإمارة الشهابية تحديداً، وغرض الباحث من هذه الدراسة هو تصحيح المفاهيم الخاطئة التي لقنتها الأجيال المتعاقبة، والتي أدت إلى تمزق وتفتيت وتقاتل أبنائه.
