لقد منَّ الولى عز وجل على هذه الأمة بأن جعلها أمة (اقرأ)، وحثنا على التفكر في ملكوت السماء وما جوت من عجائب، فاستجابت الأمة لهذه الدعوة منذ صدر الإسلام، فقامت بمتابعة ورصد النجوم والشمس والقمر، وتحديد مواقيت الصلاة واتجاهات القبلة، ومتابعة منازل القمر لمعرفة عدد الأيام والشهور، وصُنِّفت العديد من الكتب الفلكية خلال القرون الماضية منها ما حقق ونشر ومنها ما ظل مخطوطاً حتى اليوم.
وفي هذا الكتاب الذي بين يديك قام د. حسن بن محمد باصرة، بتحقيق وشرح مخطوط "نصب الشرك في ما تشتد اليه الحاجة من علم الفلك" لمؤلفه الشيخ الفقيه عثمان ابن أبي بكر العمودي، الذي ألفه سنة 1047 هـ. كما قام كذلك بشرح وإضافة مجموعة من الرسائل الفلكية المختصرة التي تعود الى القرن العاشر الهجري مما اعتمد عليه مؤلف هذا الكتاب؛ وجميعها من تراث علماء الديار الحضرمية.
