ترتبط الشخصية المثالية في الأذهان بكمالات وجدانية وعقلية وعملية، إذ ليس من المتصور أن تتصف الشخصية المثالية إذا اقتصرت في كمالها على جانب يتحقق لها فيه المثالية دون سائر الجوانب الأخرى.
الشخصية المثالية- إذن- شخصية نادرة الوجود في عالمنا، لكننا نسعى لإيجادها، ومعنى هذا السعي أن هذه الشخصية ليس من المستحيل إيجادها أو تحقيقها، بل على العكس، فنحن نرى أن "المجتمع، أي مجتمع يحتاج- كشرط لرخائه- عددًا معينًا من الأفراد الذي لا يتوافقون معه ومع النوع السائد فيه، وهو النوع العام.
وعمليًا. فكل تقدم فني أو أخلاقي أو ذهني، قد اعتمد- قبلًا- على مثل أولئك الأفراد الذين كانوا وما زالوا عاملًا حاسمًا في فترة الانتقال من الهمجية إلى الحضارة. وإذا كان على مجتمع ما أن يحرز تقدمًا، فإنه يحتاج إلى أفراد استثنائيين، تكون أنشطتهم مغايرة للنوع الذي يجب أن يكون عامًا.
وهناك دائمًا في المجتمع فائق التنظيم ميل لإعاقة أنشطة مثل هؤلاء الأفراد بإفراط، ولكن من جهة أخرى إذا لم يمارس المجتمع أي رقابة، فإن نفس نوع السبق الفردي الذي يجوز أن ينتج قيمًا عظيمة يمكن أيضًا أن ينتج مجرمًا".
هنا.. يتضح لنا أن مشكلة الشخصية المثالية ليست فحسب مشكلة الإنسان الفرد، إنما هي أيضًا مشكلة المجتمع، كما هي مشكلة العصر الراهن وحضارته الرأسمالية. فغياب الشخص المثالي لا يعني سوى غياب المجتمع المثالي، ولكي يصبح المجتمع مثاليًا.
