تشهد أوروبا منذ أمد، نقاشاً حاداً حول مسألة مفهوم الهوية الوطنية. ولكن اللافت للانتباه هو الانزلاق الخطير في مجريات النقاش العام؛ حيث تحوّل إلى منبر للتحذير من التأثير السلبي للعرب والإسلام في السلم الاجتماعي، وما يسمونه "الإرث المسيحي-اليهودي لأوربا".
وقد نبه بعض الأحزاب السياسية وعدد كبير من المفكرين، على خطورة التوظيف السياسي لموضوع الهوية، وخاصة أن موضوعات الهجرة والعرب والمسلمين، تشكل تجارة رابحة لأحزاب سياسية، وخاصة القومية اليمينية. وقد تطور الأمر إلى أن تقوم هذه الأحزاب السياسية بإطلاق مبادرات ومـشروعات لقوانين تستهدف التقييد من بعض حقوق المسلمين؛ وهذا يزيد من تهميش الحضور الإسلامي ويضعف فرص مسار المسلمين الاندماجي، وربما يؤدي إلى الانطواء على الذات. وتحاول المحاضرة الإجابة على عدد من الأسئلة؛ أبرزها:
• هل أخفقت أوربا في قدرتها على استيعاب المهاجرين، وقبول أبنائها ذوي الأصول العربية والإسلامية؟ • هل ستصل عدوى تضييق الحريات الدينية إلى جميع الدول الأوربية؟ وهل ستسهم في تشجيع الراديكالية والتعصب عند أبناء المهجر؟ • لماذا تتردد أوربا في اعتماد مبدأ الهويات المتعددة؛ مخرجاً لأزمة معرفية وسياسية ودينية؟ • هل نحن أمام تحدٍّ جديد للأوربيين من أصل عربي وإسلامي، تقع عليهم مسؤولية كبيرة في إقناع مواطنيهم، بأن أسماءهم العربية ليست معياراً لقياس مدى اندماجهم، ولاسيما قد ولدوا في أوربا ونشأوا ودرسوا فيها، وهم يتنفسون هواءها ويسهمون في بنائها؟.
