تتلخص مشكلة هذه الدراسة في معرفة تأثير العوامل الإجتماعية المختلفة، وهي الجماعات المرجعية (الأصدقاء، زملاء العمل، الجيران، القدوة) وقت الفراغ، التقليد والمحاكاة، التنشئة والعادات والتقاليد مجتمعة ومنفردة على ظاهرة الاستهلاك الإدماني عند المرأة الأردنية، وتكمن أهمية هذه الدراسة في أنها تبحث في نمط سلوك استهلاكي غير طبيعي تمارسه بعض النساء، ويعتبر هذا السلوك العنصر الأساسي في هدر وتبذير الأموال بوجه غير طبيعي وخارج عن المألوف، وهو ما يسمى بـ" ظاهرة الاستهلاك الإدماني"، وقد اعتمدت هذه الدراسة على تجميع عدد من النظريات التي تبحث في موضوع الاستهلاك الإدماني والمبنية على مجموعة متنوعة من الأنظمة، مثل سلوك المستهلك الإدماني، الإدمان على نوع معين من السلع، وعلاقة الإدمان بعلم الإجتماع، وذلك من أجل توفير إطار شامل لفهم أسباب السلوك الإدماني المتعلق في الإستهلاك، ومن ثم تفسير الشخصية المدمنة بناء على عوامل مفسرة، وذلك لتوضيح الشعور بالإستهلاك الإدماني.
