أينما وجد الإنسان وجدت الخطيئة .. ومتى وجدت الخطيئة وجبت المساءلة.. ومن هنا كانت حتمية إرساء العدالة .. ومن هنا أيضاً كانت أهمية تقديم الجناة للمحاكمة.. ومن هنا وكما يحلو للبعض أن يقول إن قاعات المحاكم يمكن أن تروي تاريخ الإنسانية على الأرض، ولكن لا توجد في الحياة ما يمكن تسميته بـ"العدالة المطلقة" التي لا يتفرد بها سوى الخالق، وإن كان هذا لا يمنع القضاة إطلاق أحكامهم بنزاهة وحيادية وبعد التوثق من مجريات وقائع ما ينظرونه من قضايا.
وكما تصدر بعض الأحكام على النحو الصحيح بعد محاكمات عادلة، هناك أيضاً محاكمات غير عادلة تصدر أحكاماً مغلوطة تعبر عن ضمائر قضاة خربة، وميزان عدل مختل، وهناك أحكام تصدر في قضايا ثم تثبت براءة الجاني ربما بعد سجنه أو ربما إعدامه، أو بعد وفاته بعد سنوات أو عقود أو مئات السنين كما سنرى في هذا الكتاب.
ومن هنا جاء إطلاق الناس لعبارة "للعدالة ألف وجه" .. ولهذا كان هذا الكتاب الذي نقدم فيه لأشهر وأغرب وأطرف المحاكمات التي شهدها تاريخ الإنسانية على الأرض، ذلك التاريخ الذي يزخر بقضايا كثيرة ومحاكمات عدة لشخصيات، نالت من الشهرة نصيبها، ولكن تعرضت للوقوع في قضايا والمثول أمام المحكمة والحكم عليها.
وقد قمنا في هذا الكتاب بعرض أشهر القضايا والمحاكمات في التاريخ القديم والمعاصر وبعضها يندى له الجبين، وبعضها يولد الصدمة، وبعضها يبعث على البكاء وبعضها يثير روح الفكاهة والمرح.
