إن الإمام الحافظ المحدث الحكيم الترمذي، وضع للسالكين في رسائله ومصنفاته معالم تنير الطريق، وتهدي إلي سبل الحق.
ومما وضعه الحكيم الترمذي مسائل روحانية في كتابه: "ختم الأولياء". وقد اطلع علي هذه المسائل الإمام العارف بالله الشيخ محي الدين بن عربي فأجاب عنها إجابات الكاشف عن أسراها، العالم بخباياها، لتكون أجوبة الإمام الشيخ الأكبر محي الدين علامات مضيئة لمن أراد أن يتعرف علي طريق الولاية.
وقد سأل الإمام الحكيم الترمذي المتوفي سنة 320هـ سبعاً وخمسين ومائة سؤال. جاءت في كتابه "ختم الأولياء".
والأسئلة التي سألها الحكيم الترمذي ليست الإجابة عنها في متناول عامة الناس، ولا خاصتهم، وأي قارئ للأسئلة. لابد وأن يقف أمامها صامتاً. لا لأنها طلاسم، أو لا مفاهيم لها، أو أنها تستعصي عن من لا يقرأ في كتب الفلسفة أو التصوف. وإنما لأنها تحتاج إلي من ذاق، ووصل، وانكشفت له الأمور انكشافاً لا ضبابية عليه.
ولما كان الإمام الأكبر محي الدين بن عربي إماماً في الطريق والسلوك. أدرك بمشربه العرفاني والكشفي ما في أسئلة الإمام الحكيم الترمذي. ولذلك أجاب عنها في كتابه: "الفتوحات المكية". وفي مصنفه: "الجواب المستقيم فيما سأل عنه الحكيم".
وقد رأينا: أن نقدم للقراء الكرام، وأهل التذوق والمعرفة أجوبة الإمام ابن عربي علي أسئلة الحكيم الترمذي، كما جاءت في الفتوحات المكية لينهل الناس منها، ويتأملوا ما كان عليه السلف الصالح من تقوى، وعلم، وتنسك.
