قصة العاشقة الشاعرة (ليلى الاخيلية) ومعشوقتها (توبة بن الحمير) قصة عجيبة وغريبة، لم يرو الزمان على طول سنينه قصة مثلها، لا في شرق الدنيا ولا في غربها! فلو كان في شرق البلاد مثلها لعرفناه من قراءتنا للتاريخ والأدب، ولو كان في الغرب شبيهها لأقاموا لها في كل ميدان تمثالاً للحب والعشق والإخلاص، والوفاء والطهر والعفاف، ولكن ذلك لم يحدث، فكانت وحدها قمة لن يتكرر مثلها، لقد عشقت توبة، وأخلصت له، فلم تشرك غيره في حبها له، وأخلصت له طول حياتها في حياته، وبعد مماته، ولا نقول إنها ترهبنت من أجله، أو لبست السواد أو البياض لباس الحزن عند قوم، وإنما نقول. إنها سارت في حياتها السيرة العادية، فلم تنسه ساعة.. كانت تجتمع بالناس وتدافع عن المظلوم، وتطالب بحقه، وتزوجت غيره بعد موته، وكان شرطها أن يحب الزوج توبة كما تحبه، وجعلت مهرها زيارتهما لقبره وسط الصحراء البعيدة، ثم استماتت في الدفاع عن زوجها ضد أعدائها ومن أساؤوا إليه، ومر الزمان ووقفت أمام الأعداء، ولم تقصر في واجبها نحوه ونحو أهله، كل هذا ولم يضعف حبها لتوبة، ولو يتسرب إلى قلبها أحد غيره، فكانت مثلاً أعلى للوفاء له والإخلاص لحب لانعرف له كنها ولا تعليلاً إلا أن نقول إنه عجيب وغريب...
