حذرت منظمة الصحة العالمية مؤخراً فى أحدث تقرير لها من إزدياد أعداد المعوقين فى مصر سنوياً بنسبة تصل تقريباً الى 13% من إجمالى عدد السكان. منهم 73% إعاقة ذهنية، هذا الخطر الداهم الذى يهدد مجتمعنا لابد له من خطة قومية لوقف إزدياد هذه الأعداد، وهو ما يقع النصيب الأوفر منها على عاتق الدولة ثم يأتى دور الأفراد وضرورة تعريفهم بمسببات هذه الإعاقة والتى فى معظم الأحوال هى نتيجة لأمراض وراثية تنتقل عبر الأجيال دون وعى من الأسر، وفى محاولة من "كتاب اليوم" لتبصير القراء بكل ما يخص الأمراض الوراثية وكيفية الكشف المبكر عنها من خلال فحوصات ما قبل الزواج والتى تعد ضرورة قصوى للمقبلين على بناء حياة جديدة خاصة من تربطهم صلات قربى.
