هذا الكتاب دعوة للإبحار في فن القصص الفارسية حيث تمتزج الأسطورة بالحكمة والفتوة والخصال الحميدة. جامع هذا الكتاب وناقله عن الفارسية هو الدكتور مصطفى البكور الباحث السوري في الدراسات الفارسية.
يفتتح الكاتب عمله في المقدمة بمقولة للحكيم أبي القاسم الفردوسي 330-416هـ. تتعلق بالقصص والحكمة من ورائها: لا تظن هذه القصص كذباً وخرافة أو مصبوغاً بالسحر والأعذار: فكل ما تعارض مع العقل، أمكن حمله على سبيل الرمز. ولم يرد ذكر الفردوسي على سبيل المصادفة، لأن مجمل الحكايات الشعبية المنقولة ليست إلا مجموعة من تصورات الناس ورؤاهم الفكرية الحاصلة من خلال تفاعلهم الطويل مع شاهنامة الفردوسي الشهيرة في الأدب الفارسي والمترجمة إلى لغات العالم.
وجدير بالذكر إن شاهنامة الفردوسي التي ألفها الفيلسوف الحكيم من سنة 370-402هـ. تعرض لخمسين ملكاً يمتدون على طول أربعة سلاسل ملكية ووفق ثلاثة مراحل هي: المرحلة الأسطورية، ثم البطولية، فالحماسية. كما يؤمل أن يكون الاهتمام بالثقافة الفارسية رداً مهذباً على كتابات بعض الإيرانيين المتغربين الذين يتنافسون في الإساءة إلى الثقافة العربية ويؤرثون الأحقاد القديمة.
يسر مكتب الترجمة وضع هذا الكتاب بين أيدي الناشئة عساهم يجدون فيه متعة المطالعة والإطلاع على جماليات التراث، وبين أيدي الراشدين لينهلوا من مغزى الحكم بمدركات الماضي.
