وضع هذا الكتاب وفق الخطة المعتمدة لكلية الهندسة المدنية في جامعة دمشق ليغطي مفردات مادة الهندسة الوصفية والرسم الهندسي بقسميه النظري والعملي.
بشكل يتناسب مع عدد ساعات المنهاج التدريسية، وهو يحتوي طرق التمثيل الهندسي المختلفة، وأنواع الإسقاط، وتمثيل الأجسام فراغياً، وقطع الأجسام ورسم المساقط المقطوعة.
كما يحتوي جزءاً مختصراً وهاماً من الهندسة الوصفية الذي يخدم عملية التمثيل الهندسي للرسومات في الهندسة المدنية.
تتوزع أبحاث هذا الكتاب بين الهندسة الوصفية المجردة والرسم الهندسي الذي يعتمد بشكل أساسي على الهندسة الوصفية، لذلك نجد أن الكتاب يحوي 20% من علوم الهندسة الوصفية الضرورية والأساسية من أجل الإنتقال إلى عملية الرسم الهندسي الذي يتحدث عنه، وبنسبة 80% من أبحاث هذا الكتاب.
الهدف الأساسي من هذا الكتاب هو رفع مهارات الطلاب في الرسم الهندسي والوصول بالطالب إلى مرحلة يستطيع فيها إنجاز الرسوم الهندسية وقراءة المخططات واللوحات الرسومية.
