ألف ابن عصفور كتاب المقرب على غرار المتون النحوية كالتسهيل والألفية والمفصل والكافية والشافية والعجب أن هذه المتون قد شرحت شروحاً كثيرة جداً إلا المقرب فلم يشرح مرة واحدة منذ ألفه صاحبه من سبعة قرون، ولقد أعاننى الله فشرحته أحسن شرح وأفضله ولم أبخل عليه بالجهد والمال ولم أضن عليه بالأعوام الطوال، ولم أترك شارده أدوراه تعرض لها ابن عصفور إلا فصيلتها وعللتها ومثلت لها وكنت أنقد وأقارن وارد وأعارض حتى كبر الكتاب وعظم كما ترى فكان الجزء الأول وهو في المرفوعات قسمين والثاني بإذن الله سيكون في المنصوبات والثالث في المجرورات والرابع في أبواب البناء ومخارج الحروف والخامس في التصريف وضرائر الشعر.
