إن هذا الكتاب ليس بكتاب فقه الطريقة، ومعرفة أحكام وشروط وآداب تلاوة الأوراد، بل هو ترجمة للشيخ وأتباعه الناشرين لطريقته... واعتمد في إنجاز عمله على مئات المراجع الموثوق بها: العربية منها والأجنبية التي لم توجد مجتمعة في كتاب من كتب الطريقة، والمؤلف - وهو يعرض الأحداث والقضايا.
وقد أشير المؤلف إلى مراجعه بدقة فناقش في كتابه قضايا حساسة جداً قد تثير له مشاكل من جهات مختلفة، ولكن ما ذنبه إذا كان اعتمد على مصادر صحيحة معترف بها.
الشيخ أحمد التِجاني (1250- 1230هـ) من أبرز الشخصيات الإسلامية منذ نحو قرنين ونصف، فطريقته الصوفية منتشرة في القارات الخمس، خصوصاً في إفريقيا، ولا تزال في مزيد من الإتساع والإشعاع شرقاً وغرباً، وأتباعها اليوم يُعدّون بعشرات الملايين، ولهم جهود في نشر الإسلام ونشر الثقافة الإسلامية والعربية.
وفي هذا الكتاب تفصيل وافٍ لسيرة الشيخ والمحيط الذي عاش فيه، وبيان لتعاليمه الإسلامية ولمعالم تربيته الروحية، وفحص لما تعرّضت له الكتب المنسوبة لطريقته من مدسوسات دخيلة عن أصلها النقي السليم.
ويشتمل أيضاً على إشارات إلى الكمّ الهائل من الكتب التي كُتِبت حولها دفاعاً وإنتقاداً، وهي تُعدّ بالمئات، وعلى تراجم أشهر خلفاء الشيخ وعلماء طريقته، وما تفرع منهم من سلاسل وزوايا، وآثارهم الدعَوية والثقافية والإجتماعية، وغير ذلك مما يمَكِّن القارئ من الحصول على نظرة كليقة على الطريقة التجانية التي هي من أوسع الطرق إنتشاراً، ومن أعظمها تأثيراً في العالم الإسلامي في عصرنا هذا.
