تُعدّ حركة أو دعوة الشيخ محمد عبد الوهاب من أهم الحركات الدينية والسياسية والتي ظهرت في المنطقة العربية خلال 300 سنىة الماضية، والتي غيّرت مجرى تاريخ المنطقة العربية بل تعدّتها إلى المناطق الإسلامية الأخرى.
لقد نشأ عن هذه الحركة تفاعلات وأحداث إجتماعية وإقتصادية وسياسية منها: أولاً: قيام الدولة السعودية، ثانياً: إنزياحات إسكانية وهجرات قبلية كبيرة، ثالثاً: صراعات سياسية وإقتصادية، رابعاً: صراعات سياسية وإقتصادية، رابعاً: إنتشار التأثيرات الدينية.
أما تأثير أفكار الشيخ محمد عبد الوهاب فكانت كبيرة حيث انتشر هذا الفكر الوهابي وترسخ في الجزيرة العربية بشكل أساسي، وثم حدث تطور كبير في إنتشار أفكار الشيخ عبد الوهاب في المنطقة العربية والعالم الإسلامي خلال الستين سنة الماضية.
من المهم جداً أن يحيط الباحث نفسه بجميع المصادر التاريخية من فرنسية وبريطانية وعثمانية وعربية لكي تكتمل الصور في فهم التطورات التاريخية التي حدثت، يمكن أن يرى الباحث أن التقارير الفرنسية المترجمة تحمل وصفاً وتعابير بعيدة عن الموضوعية، ولكن لا يعني ذلك إهمالها بل نختلف مع الوصف ولكن لا يمكن نفي الحدث الذي وقع.
