هذا الكتاب هو حديث عن بعض من شواغل الفكر العربي المعاصر لا كل شواغله. ووقوف عند بعض منعطفاته وليس كلها. فلقد بات الفكر العربي المعاصر يعاقر كل مدى حتى وإن لم يكن ذلك من أصول شواغله الموضوعية.
إننا نواجه في المجال العربي إحدى أكبر المفارقات بخصوص صناعة المفاهيم وتداولها. إن استعمال المفاهيم لا يتجاوز دائرة النخبة، بل لا يكاد يشملها جميعاً. استعمالات النخبة للمفاهيم لا يتجاوز تنزيلها الساذج في التعاطي مع المشكلة العربية في المعرفة والاجتماع، تنزيلاً لا يرفها فوق مستوى التطبيقات البيداغوجية في جو موسوم بشحة الإبداع. وما عدا تلك النخب لا يوجد في الثقافة العربية تداول ناجع للمفاهيم.
في هذا الكتاب أربعة فصول: المعرفة، النهضة، المستقبل، التسامح، نسعى للتعرف على ما وراء بعض المفاهيم والوقوف عند تقاطعات وشواغل الفكر العربي المعاصر. في محاولة أخرى لنقد الفكر العربي المعاصر ومقاربة شواغله.
