يعالج هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الموضوعات المتصلة بإعادة تكوين مفهوم الاجتهاد الشرعي عبر آليات مختلفة للخروج من المأزق الذي تعاني منه بعض جوانب الدراسات الدينية والفقهيّة، فهو يحاول تعقيل النتائج الفقهيّة من جهة، كما يحاول فهم النصوص الدينية بطريقة واقعيّة وضمن منظور فلسفي حقيقي من جهة ثانية.
إنّ الكتاب ـ في جانبه الآخر ـ يعالج ظاهرة التقليد، ويحاول القيام بزحزحة لبعض المفاهيم السائدة في هذا الموضوع، فيركّز جهوده على إعادة النظر في مفهوم الأعلميّة من جهة، وتكوين وعي جديد لفكرة التقليد تبعده عن فقدان البصيرة من جهة ثانية، واعتماد سبيل رابع ـ غير التقليد والاجتهاد والاحتياط ـ يمكن أن يرجع إليه أصحاب النظر في الأمّة، ولو لم يكونوا من الفقهاء عبر منهجيّة الترجيح الواعي. إنّه محاولة تفكير وتأمّل.
