هذا الكتاب، مجموعة قراءات نقدية، في نصوص شعرية يغلب عليها طابع السرد، وهي نصوص لشاعر من القرن الماضي، عرف بشغفه بالأساطير. ولا سيما أساطير الموت والانبعاث، الشاعر خليل حاوي. تقدم هذه القراءات النقدية على شكل متوالية في أربع عشرة قراءة، وكل قراءة تؤدي إلى الأخرى، وهذا ما نعنيه بالمتوالية، وهي تأخذ من متوالية الزمن نظامها، ومن الحكاية طريقة العرض والتناول. فهي سلسلة مترابطة من الموضوعات. والمتوالية السردية مرتبطة بالزمن الحدثي أو زمن الحدث، فالأسطورة بشكل عام، قصة غير مرتبطة بزمن، إلا بالزمن الحدثي الذي أوجده النص، ومنح الأسطورة بتوظيفها في الشعر نوعًا من الوجود، أو جعلها نصًا مغايرًا لما كانت عليه. فالأسطورة بهذا المعنى، أخذت تسير في الشعر سير الحكاية، وهي في الأصل حكاية.
آمل من هذه القراءات أن تسهم مع الجهود النقدية الأخرى في إيجاد أرضية مشتركة لقراءة النصوص، لا تقوم ضرورة على مطابقة الاتجاهات النقدية المعاصرة ولا تخالفها أو تقلل من شأنها. إنها حفر في واقع النص.. هذا العصي على التحديد المنفلت من كل زمن..
