ليس شرطاً أن يطلق لفظ جميلة العرب على كل امرأة اتصفت بهذه المواصفات. فهناك الكثير من الجميلات لم تطلق عليهن الصفة بالرغم من توفر عناصر الجمال لهن، وذلك لأنه لم يؤثر عن إحداهن أنها قالت قولاً معيناً، أو قامت بفعل ما، ترك أثراً في الحياة العامة. فجميلات كثيرات عرفهن تاريخ الأدب والاجتماع من مثل جليلة زوجة كليب، والمتجردة زوجة النعمان، وعبلة حبيبة عنتر، وبثينة حبيبة جميل، ولبنى حبيبة قيس، وكثيرات أمثالهم، وتوفرت لهن عناصر الجمال، إلا أنه لم تطلق على إحداهن تلك اللفظة المحببة /جميلة العرب/ لأن جليلة لم تقم بعمل أو قول يخفف من وطأة حرب البسوس بين قبيلتها وقبيلة زوجها، كما لم تقم المتجردة بقول أو فعل يضاف إلى تاريخ النعمان، وأما عبلة ولبنى وبثينة، فقد استسلمت كل واحدة لقدرها وحكم قبيلتها دون أن يصدر عنهن أي قول أو فعل يعرف منه أنهن حاولت أن يغيرن المصير الذي قرره لهن أهلهن. كما لم تبدر منهن أية محاولة لتغيير الواقع السيء الذي عشن فيه، فلم يكسبهن الجمال الجسدي لقب الجميلة العربية.
وهذا القول أن الفعل كان شرطاً حتى تكتسب الجميلة لقب جميلة العرب وأن هذا القول أو الفعل هو بمثابة الأسئلة التي تلقى على المتباريات لملكات الجمال في هذه الأيام لمعرفة مدى ثقافتهن.
والكتاب الذي بين يدينا يتحدث عن سبعة جميلات كان لكل واحدة منهن موقف أو قول أو عمل ترك أثراً في الحياة العامة بعدها. والجميلات اللواتي يتحدث عنهن هذا الكتاب هن: ليلى العفيفة، بهيسة بيت أوس، حرقة بنت النعمان، عائشة بنت طلحة، هند بنت النعمان بن بشير، أم البنين، زبيدة بنت جعفر.
