إن في ذلك لعبرة لمن اعتبر، وتذكرة لمن ادكر، وتبصرة لمن استبصر، وكان من أعجب القضايا، بل من أعظم البلايا الفتنة التي يحار فيها اللبيب، ويدهش في دجي حندسها الفطن الأريب، ويسفه فيها الحكيم، ويذل فيها العزيز، ويهان الكريم، قصة تيمور رأس الفساق، الأعرج الدجال الذي أقام الفتنة شرقاً وغرباً على ساق، أقبلت الدنيا الدنية عليه فتولى وسعى في الأرض، فأفسد فيها وأهلك وأهلك الحرث والنسل وتيمم حين عمته النجاسة صعيد الأرض، فغسل بسيف الطغيان كل أغر محجل، وتحققت نجاسته بهذا الغسل.
أردت أن أذكر منها ما رأيته، وأقص في ذلك ما رويته، إن كانت إحدى الكبر وأم العبر، والداهية التي لا يرضى القضاء في وصفها بذا القدر، والله أسأل إلهام الصدق وسلوك طريق الحق، إنه ولي الإجابة ومسدد سهم المرام إلى غرض الإصابة وهي حسبي ونعم الوكيل.
