تمثّل قضية النزاع على الحدود في المنطقة العربية واحدة من القضايا الخلافية المتوارثة من حقبة الاستعمار المباشر ودور القوى الغربية المستعمرة في رسم الحدود بين الكيانات القطرية العربية بناء على مصالحها الاقتصادية والجيوسياسية في المنطقة. ورغم مرور أكثر من نصف قرن على انتهاء مرحلة الاستعمار المباشر أو الوصاية المباشرة للقوى الغربية الاستعمارية، لا تزال البلدان العربية عاجزة عن التوصل إلى حلول نهائية مرضية لمشكلات الحدود في بينها. ولا تنأى منطقة الخليج العربي عن تلك المشكلات، التي ساهمت معادلة الأخ الأكبر، ورجحان كفة ميزان القوى لمصلحة هذا الأخ، في التوصل إلى تسويات لم تكن مرضية لأطراف النزاع. يبحث هذا الكتاب في أزمة الحدود بين دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة والمملكة العربية السعودية، دور الحقوق التاريخية والموارد الطبيعية والممار البحرية في هذا النزاع. كما يلقي الكتاب الضوء على موازين القوى المحلية وعلى الوساطة البريطانية وسياسات المحاور الأمريكية في المنطقة وانعكاسها على مخرجات التفاوض بين البلدين.
