كما أن مصطلح "النزاعات غير المتكافئة" يقصد به في هذا السياق حصر الموضوع الواسع للتساؤلات المتعددة حوله وذلك بأقل الكلمات الممكنة - ومع هذا، فهذا المصطلح يبقى يعاني من نفحة التكبَّر الأكاديمي وإنفصاله في البرج العاجي.
وفي الحقيقة، فإن موضوع الحقيقي المتناول هنا هو الوحشية السافرة في الحروب، حيث أن المتلقي الأولي لهذه الوحشية في العادة يكون الجنود، فهم مدربون لمواجهتها، وإن بحدود معينة.

(ولوسائل اللاحقة للقانون الدولي الإنساني) لحماية الأطفال والمصابين والمرضى والمرضى العقليين والمعاقين والأطفال الصغار، والنساء اللواتي لا يوجد لديهن تحمّل للأسلحة، وكبار السن، ذلك الكون هؤلاء مجرد بشر ضعفاء وليسوا جنوداً، ولكنهم أصبحوا ضحايا بشكل متزايد للهجوم بالسكاكين، وبالبنادق، واللهب، والمعدن الطائر، وكلهم كانوا عبارة عن أهداف لأنافالمقاتلين اليائسين يجدون أنه من المفيد الإختباء بينهم، والتغلغل في أماكن إقامتهم، بينما كان أعدائهم يفتقرون إما إلى الإرادة أو القدرة على ضربهم من دون رأي واضح، وبذلك يكون الأطفال الصغار أول الضحايا التي تتكور جانباً.
