دراسة للتحولات الفكرية والثقافية التي عاشها العالم الإسلامي في المرحلة الممتدة من القرن العاشر وحتى الثاني عشر الهجري (السادس عشر حتى الثامن عشر الميلادي)، ودراسة ذلك خلال محاور أربعة: محود الأعلام، ويتناول نخبة من العلماء والمصلحين، وإسهاماتهم الفكرية والعلمية، ومحور الكتب، ويتناول المؤلفات التي صُنفت خلال هذه القرون، ومدى ما تركته تلك المؤلفات من آثار في مسيرة التحولات الفكرية، ومحور الحركات الفكرية وما تركته من آثار سياسية، واجتماعية، ونهضوية، ومحور الأفكار وبعض النظم والمؤسسات وما انتظمها من تطور. وتطلّب العمل على هذا المشروع سنوات من المتابعة الحثيثة حتى استغلظ واستوى على سوقه. ويسعدنا ونحن نضع بين يدي القُرّاء والمهتمين ثمار هذا الجهد، لنؤكد بأننا اجتهدنا لأن نرسي اللبنات الأولى لدراسة هذه القرون، وتطوراتها الفكرية، ونحن لا نزعم بأننا وفيناها حقّها، وحسبُنا أننا أنرنا الطريق لمن سيتصدى لاحقاً لاستكمال ما في هذا المشروع من ثغرات. ولا شك في أن هناك كثيراً من الأعلام، والمؤلفات، والحركات، والأفكار، في المرحلة موضوع الدراسة، يحتاج إلى مزيد بحث واستقصاء. وما أحوجنا اليوم ونحن نسعى جاهدين لبناء مشروع الأمة النهضوي، أن نجتهد في تحفيز العقل المسلم المستنير، بهدف استلهام موروث الأمة ومنجزها الحضاري، هذا الموروث الذي شكّل عبر التاريخ الحضاري للأمة معيناً لا ينضب من العطاء: بل السخاء في العطاء.
