يتضمن هذا الكتاب واحدة من الدراسات الرصينة في ميدان البحوث اللغوية، إذ يعكف مؤلفه-بصفة أساسية- على دراسة الخصائص اللغوية المشتركة في بنية أسماء الأعلام أو دلالتها عبر بيئات الشعوب السامية المختلفة، معتمداً على ركائز المنهج المقارن ومستعيناً بكل من المنهج التاريخي والمنهج الوصفي وصولاً إلى غايته.
وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى العديد من الاستنتاجات المهمة التي تؤكد على توافر صلات القربى بين اللغة العربية وأخواتها من اللغات السامية، فضلاً عن إمكانية تأريخ كثير من الظواهر اللغوية المشتركة، التي ترجع إلى فترات تسبق بكثير زمن الشعر الجاهلي، إذ تثيت أن بينة أسماء الأعلام السامية قد مت بمراحل تطور لغوية مختلفة تعكس مراحل تطور الذهنية اللغوية السامية، وأن قلة أسماء الأعلام العربية الجملية تشير إلى نمو الذهنية اللغوية العربية، كما تؤكد على أهمية النظر في الإستعمال اللهجي العربي المعاصر لما فيه من استعمالات لغوية تعين الباحث على تفسير وتعليل ظواهر لغوية عربية ذات أصول سامية، أهملتها مصادر التراث اللغوي العربي لعدم اهتمام أصحابها الأهتمام الكافي بدراسة اللغات السامية الأخرى.
