"لم يرد بكتاب إيريك دايفيز (مأزق البرجوازية المصرية وبنك مصر) الذى أورد فيه أسماء وعائلات الباشوات بدءا من محمد على باشا عام 1807 وحتى قيام ثورة يوليو 1952 أى ذكر للسنهوتى باشا، ومن ثم فإن الوقائع التاريخية فقط وردت بكتب التاريخ، وهذه رواية".
ومن الرواية نعرف أن "مها"، الوارد اسمها فى العنوان، هى حفيدة "السنهوتى باشا"، ومن جو الرواية: "نظرت إليه ولم ترد، كانت عيناها تومضان بضوء كأنها تقبض على فكرة، ثم تعود للهدوء كنسيم العصر وكأنها تحاول السيطرة على مشاعرها التى تدفعها إلى البوح بالحب وجسارة الاعتراف والخوف من صدمة الصد.. كانت لا تعرف أن شلالات نياجرا هطلت وتفتحت مسام جلده كأنه ولد من جديد، موسيقى صاخبة تجتاح مسامعه وتهزه من الداخل، تتراءى أمامه صورة طفل يقف أعلى جسر قناطر تشبه القناطر الخيرية.. ويلقى بنفسه وسط الأمواج فى سعادة غامرة.. إنه كونشرتو موسيقى هائل.. يقول لنفسه: هل سألت نفسك يوما عن مفهوم السعادة، عن الحب؟ إنها لحظة العمر، لقطة العمر، إنها كف هذه الفتاة التى تداخلت مع أصابعى الخشنة، إنه قلبى الذى ينبض ويدق بذات دقات قلبها.. لقد استلبتنى ولم أعد أنا أنا، لم أعد أمتلك نفسي، ونزعت صورة زينب والتصقت بمخيلتى ولن تغادرها".
