في 3 أغسطس 1990، أطلق العراق شرارة الحرب باجتياحه للكويت. وقد وقع القتال فى يناير وفبراير 1991، كان قتالا تم فيه النصر مع أقل الخسائر لدى الغربيين وحلفائهم العرب.
لولا حرب الخليج ما كتب هذا الكتب، ولقد حاولت وصف هذه المواجهة كما عشتها. غير أن تاريخ 23 أبريل 1991 سجل بالنسبة لي، انتهاء خدمة طبعت بنزاعين كبيرين لتصفية الاستعمار، تسى خلالهما كثير من مواطنى بلدى، أن جيش الجمهورية الفرنسية كان يحارب فى هذين المجالين، وفقا لأوامر حكومته. ولذلك سوف أسلط بعض الأضواء الشخصية على هاتين المواجهتين، اللتين شاركت فيهما كملازم ثم كنقيب، مع اضافة بعض الملاحظات كان للزمن تاثيره فيها، بمرور السنين. بين حب الجزائر وحرب الخليج مرت ثلاثون عاما أو أكثر. وسوف احاول أن أصف الأعوام الثلاثين المشار اليها كما عشتها فى مواقع مختلفة بدءا من رتبه نقيب حتى ربته فريق أول. وسأنهي كتابي بمحاولة فتح بعض السبل نحو المستقبل. وأيضا وسيدرس هذا الكتاب حرب الهند الصينية.
