ألف موسى بن ميمون كتابه "تثنية التوراة" ويُدعى بالعبرية "مشنية توراه: اليد القوية" في العقد السابع من القرن الثاني عشر، إذ بدأ تأليفه عام 1170 ميلادية، وهو كتاب في الشريعة اليهودية، يضم أربعة عشر مجلداً. أما الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا (تثنية التوراة اليد القوية) ما هو إلا ترجمة لنسخة مختصرة من الكتاب الأصلي انتقاها الدكتور فلتيئيل "فيليب" بير نباوم، وترجمها الأستاذ محمد خليل حسين، لتكون مرجعاً مبسطاً لمن يرغب في الإطلاع على الشريعة اليهودية من غير اليهود المتخصّصين من اليهود أو ممن يودّ التعرّف على الفكر الديني اليهودي ...
تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من كونه ينهج منهجاً علمياً في دراسة عقيدة اليهود والتعرّف على أفكارهم، وخصوصاً أن هذا الكتاب دُعي في ما بعد بـ "اليد القوية" بناءً على ما جاء في التوراة : "اليد القوية" .. لما قام به موسى أمام أعين كل إسرائيل". (تثنية 12:34). أي أن موسى بن ميمون فعل كما فعل سيدنا موسى (النبي) في ذلك الوقت حيث كتب "تثنية التوراة" لتكون أمام أعين كل إسرائيل، والحقيقة أن كلمة "يد" وفق حساب الجُمَّل تمثل العدد أربعة عشر، وهو عدد الأسفار التي يتكون منها كتاب "تثنية التوراة" . ولهذا اعتبر موسى بن ميمون السفارادي أن كتابه هذا هو محصلة لقراءته لتلك الأسفار. ومن هنا يقول "ورأيت أن أجمع النتائج المحصلة من تلك المؤلفات كلها، في موضوعات الحلال والحرام، والنجس والطاهر، وباقي قوانين التوراة (...) بحسب الأحكام التي تتوضح من هذه المؤلفات والتفاسير الموجودة، منذ سيدنا موسى (النبي) وحتى الآن ...".
المؤلف: أبو عمران موسى بن ميمون القُرطبي: ولد في مدينة قرطبة الإسبانية عام 1135 وتوفي في الفسطاط (القاهرة) بمصر عام 1204، ودُفن في مدينة طبريا الفلسطينية.
