وبذلك يصبح هذا الكتاب نقلة حقيقية في فهم أعمق لطبيعة التلاميذ ذوي صعوبات التعلم والذي أكد من خلال فصوله المتنوعة أن البروفيل الشخصي لهذه الفئة قابل للتغيير في الاتجاه الإيجابي سواء من وجهة نظر المتعلم نفسه أو من وجهة نظر المجتمع المحيط به فقط إذا امتلك هذا المتعلم آليات هذا التغيير والتي من أهمها التنظيم الذاتي للتعلم والشخصية والذي من شأنه تسليح هذه الفئة بالعديد من الآليات المتضمنة فيه مثل: التأمل الذاتي والذي يربط بين فكر الفرد وذاته، والتقييم الذاتي والذي يساعد الفرد على تقييم مدى قربه أو بعده عن الغاية أو الذات المأمولة بالشكل الذي يساعد على وضع معيار لسلوكه المستقبلي كي يصل إلى هذه الذات المأمولة وغيرها من الآليات الأخرى والتي من شأنها أن تساعد هذه الفئة من التلاميذ على عمل تصالح نفسي مع ذواتهم بحيث يدركونها أكثر إيجابية وأكثر استقلالية وكفاءة.
