جمال الدين الأفغانى زعيم وطنى ترك أثرا كبيرا علي جميع حركات الإصلاح والتحرر التي ظهرت في البلاد الإسلامية في العصر الحديث، وقد تجول في البلاد الإسلامية، وتحدث مع عدد من حكامها، ولكن نوع الصلة التي كانت بينه وبين ناصر الدين شاه -الملك الإيراني في عصره- جديرة بالدراسة حقا، فقد بدأت بإعجاب من الشاه بأفكار الأفغانى وشخصيته وعلمه، ثم انتهت بعداء شديد، أدي إلي أن حرض الأفغانى علي قتل ناصر الدين شاه انتقاما لما لاقاه منه.
وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلي توضيح طبيعة العلاقة بين جمال الدين الأفغاني وناصر الدين شاه، وتوضيح مدي اتفاقها أو اختلافها عن الإطار العام الذي حدده الإسلام لما يجب أن تكون عليه العلاقة بين الزعيم الإسلامى والحاكم، ثم بيان المنهج الإسلامي الأمثل للنهوض بالمسلمين. وذلك كله عن طريق الرجوع إلي كتاب الله وإلي سنة النبى عليه الصلاة والسلام.
ومن الجدير بالذكر أن نشير إلي أن الدراسات السابقة لم تحاول دراسة العلاقة بين جمال الدين الأفغانى أو أعماله بمعايير الإسلامية، ولم تحاول كذلك تقييم أقوال الأفغانى أو أعماله بمعايير الإسلام، لذلك أقدم هذا العمل كمحاولة اولى في دراسة هذا الجانب.
