ألغى البث التلفزيوني القضائي الحواجز بين البلدان والمجتمعات، وكاد العالم أن يصبح قرية كونية، حتى إن الكثير من المختصين بشؤون الإتصال والإعلام، وصفوا التلفزيون بانه الجهاز الذي جمع العالم، بعد أن جمع حوله العائلة، وأن شعوب العالم بدأت تتقارب أكثر، إلا إن هذا الوصف أو الحكم لم يكن دقيقاً، فقد بنى على تصور خاطئ فالتطورات الهائلة التي شهدها النصف الثاني من القرن العشرين في مجال التلفزيون خلقت نظاماً مختلفاً بالكامل عما كان سائداً في السابق، إذ وفرت الإتصال بإتجاهين وأدت إلى شيوع المحطات الفضائية المتخصصة، والتي راحت تتفكك هي الأخرى إلى تفاصيل وتخصصات أدق، موجهة برامجها إلى جماهير محددة ذات إهتمامات متباينة، أو إلى جماهير إنقسمت فيما بينها على أسس سياسية ودينية وعرقية، وبات التنافس على الفضائيات والبرامج واضحاً حتى ضمن العائلة الواحدة التي لا يتعدى عدد أفرادها الإثنين، فلم يعد الجمهور كمفهوم كما كنا نعرفه من قبل، فالتلفزيون تطور سريعاً، ولم تعد مواكبته ممكنة، ولا نعلم إلى أين سيصل بنا من الفرقة والتفكك بعد؟!
