الكتاب الذي بين يديك أخي القارئ- كتاب عظيم وسفر جليل قد اشتمل على عدد كبير من مسائل الاختيار التي اختارها ابن يعيش والتي بلغت مائة وخمسين مسألة كانت كلها في النحو إلا عشرين منها في الصرف، وقد رتب الشيخ مسائل الاختيار كما رتبها الزمخشري في المفصل وابن يعيش في الشرح وكانت أربعة أقسام: القسم الأول في الأسماء وكانت مسائله كثيرة جاوزت المائة ثم القسم الثاني في الأفعال وكانت مسائله قليلة ثم القسم الثالث في الحروف والرابع في المشترك وكانت مسائلها أقل، كانت المسألة بعد التهذيب والتنقيح لا تقل عن خمس صفحات أو ست، يعرض أولًا أصل المسألة ثم يبين الخلاف فيها بين المذاهب النحوية أو بين العلماء ابتداء من الخليل وكتبه كالعين وسيبويه وكتابه ومرورًا بالمبرد والفراء وابن جني ومؤلفاتهم وانتهاء بصاحب الإنصاف وأبي حيان وابن مالك ثم يعرض لرأي ابن يعيش واختياره معللًا لذلك الاختيار، ثم ناقدًا له بالموافقة أو المخالفة وكثيرًا ما يوافقه ويرجح رأيه.
