«مختصر أبي شجاع» من متون الشافعية المختصرة المباركة، كثير النفع، جمُّ الفوائد، عمدة للمبتدئين، وتذكرة للمبرِّزين. وهو من تلك اللبنات الفقهية التي لا يتجاوزها طلبة الشافعية. وهو من المحررات التي على اختصارها حوت المعتمد من الأقوال على مذهب الإمام المطَّلبي. أكثر فيه مؤلفه من التقسيمات وحصر الخصال، تكلل بالقبول، فحط رحله في كل مكتبة. وتأبَّطه المبتدئون في كل حلقة، ودرسه المشايخ لتلاميذهم، فكان الفتح ملازماً لمن نادمه، والفهم مصاحباً لمن ناجاه.
حدَّث عنه مصنفه فقال: "سألني بعض الأصدقاء حفظهم الله تعالى أن أعمل مختصراً في الفقه على مذهب الإمام الشافعي رحمة الله تعالى عليه ورضوانه ـ في غاية الاختصار، ونهاية الإيجاز؛ ليقرب على المتعلم درسه ويسهل على المبتدىء حفظه، وأن أكثر فيه من التقسيمات وحصر الخصال، فأجبته إلى ذلك طالباً للثواب، راغباً إلى الله سبحانه وتعالى في التوفيق للصواب، إنه على ما يشاء قدير".
لذلك اعتنى العلماء به، بين شارح، وناظم، ومصحح، وجامع لأدلته.. مما يدل على أهميته، وأنه من الكتب المعتمدة في الفقه. فدونك هذا المختصر مضبوطاً في حلل الإتقان اعتمد في تحقيقه على ثمان نسخ خطية من النفائس المستجدات، ومعظمها مضبوط بالشكل الكامل، فاستخلصت منها كلها هذا المتن المتربع على منصة الإتقان والجودة الإخراجية، والضبط الدقيق.
