ينطلق هذا الكتاب من فرضية مفادها أن ليس ثَمّة منهج ناجز ولا حقيقة مكتملة، فهذين ليسا من مهمات التأويلية، فالتأويلية لها مسعىً آخر ينصب على صميم التجربة الإنسانية للعالم؛ فَهمُ الآخر، التراث، التاريخ الفكري للإنسان، اللغة، الفن، الحياة، خدمةً للتواصل الحميد الذي من خلاله يتحقق لنا جسر الهوة بيننا وبين العالم؛ العالم بكل تمظهراته وإمتدادته التاريخية والوجودية.
إن مهمة الهيرمينوطيقا في محاولتها الإجابة على التساؤل الأهم وكيف يكون الفهم ممكناً؟ فكما كان جهد هوسرل لتحقيق التواصل وكما سعى هيدغر إلى جعله نمط الوجود الإنساني نفسه، وكما نادى دلتاي بمعايشته، كان إدماج غادامير للأفاق تحقيقاً له، وكان التواصل الإجتماعي القائم على نوعيات المصلحة الهابرماسية منادياً به.
التأويلية مشروع فلسفي طامح لتجاوز الإغلاق الإبستمولوجي فليست هي خطوات أو إجراءات في الفهم، وإنما هي عالم يصوغ وجودنا بأسره، ويغمر جميع علاقاتنا الإنسانية.
تأتي الهيرمينوطيقا الغربية معالجة لإشكاليات منها العالمي ومنها الخاص، ويبقى للقارئ العربي أن يختار بعناية وحذر شديدين ما يعالج إحتياجاته الثقافية، بما لا يدخله في بوتقة الإستغراب المذموم أو الضياع المرفوض، فالحكمة ضالتنا ونحن أحق بها.
