جاءت هذه الدراسة في مبحثين هما: المبحث التنظيري والمبحث التطبيقي: وقد عني المبحث التنظيري بمحورين، الأول: تناول مفهوم المنهج الشكلي وتطوره بداية مع الشكلانيين الروس ونهاية بالبنائيين والدلاليين والثاني: تناول آليات تشكيل هذا المنهج من حيث المقاربات الشكلية، والمتن الحكائي والمبنى الحكائي والسرد والتحفيز.
أما المبحث التطبيقي فقد عني بالتحفيز كنموذج تطبيقي من نماذج آليات المنهج الشكلي، وقد اشتمل الجانب التطبيقي على أربعة محاور، الأول: التحفيز السياقي "البنائي" من حيث التحفيز اللغوي، وتحفيز الشخصية، وتحفيز الحدث، والثاني: التحفيز الفعلي من حيث التحفيز الفعلي المركزي، والتحفيز الفعلي الفرعي، والثالث: تحفيز الطبيعة والخاصية من حيث التحفيز التأليفي، والتحفيز الواقعي، والتحفيز الجمالي، والرابع: تحفيز الدلالة الموضوعية من حيث التحفيز السياسي والاجتماعي والأسطوري والنفسي والتوليدي وغيره.
على أننا راعينا تطور هذا النمط التحفيزي بداية من الخلية الأم له وهي آليات المنهج الشكلي، وما طرأ على هذا النمط من تطور عند الشكلانيين والبنائيين والدلاليين، ونهاية بتصور كلي يفيد من الأطروحات السابقة ويضيف ما يراه متوافقا مع تطور الرواية المعاصرة، وعلى الرغم من أن هذا النمط التحفيزي يمكن تطبيقه على الابداع الروائي عامة، إلا أننا اقتصرنا التطبيق على بعض الروايات العربية المعاصرة على سبيل التمثيل لا الحصر.
وعلى الرغم من أن الدراسات النقدية الروائية عديدة، إلا أننا نظن أن ما عني منها بالتحفيز التطبيقي على الرواية العربية قليل إلى حد كبير. ومن ثم تأتي هذه الدراسة لتواصل مسيرة الدراسات النقدية الأوربية والعربية في مجال التحفيز الروائي. ولا تدعي هذه الدراسة لنفسها التميز أو الخصوصية ولكنها جاءت استكمالاً للجهود السابقة، فإن كان بها حسنات فمردها للإبداع الروائي والفكر النقدي المعاصر، وإن كان بها زلات فمردها للباحث.
