النقد هو عملية أدبية لغوية ونشاط فكري وإنساني يقوم به الناقد قصد تجلية معنى من المعاني أو تقويم اعوجاج أو إشارة إلى موطن من مواطن الجمال. ولكن، تعريف النقد يختلف باختلاف النظريات النقدية ويركّز على الهدف الذي يهدف إليه الناقد، من هنا يعتبر الكاتب "حسين خمري" أن كل محاولة لتأطير العملية النقدية أو محاولة إعطاء تعريف للنقد يعني اتخاذ موقف إيديولوجي وثقافي معين وحصر نشاطه في دائرة محددة. (...) ولهذا الغرض، تحاول النظرية النقدية المعاصرة أن تتجاوز النظرية النقدية التي لا تهتم بالنص الأدبي ولا ترى فيه إلا "وثيقة" تحاول - عبرها - تمرير رسالة معينة، وهذه الرسالة هي - في غالب الأحيان - رسالة اجتماعية أو سياسية، وهكذا يحتل النص الأدبي - الذي هو موضوع الدرس - مرتبة ثانية ويصبح وسيلة لا غاية، الهدف منه إعطاء نصائح - وعظية - لا البحث في مكونات النص وطرائق تسجيل الحدث... يأتي هذا البحث محاولة رائدة ومهمة من الكاتب "حسين خمري" للتنقيب في تراثنا النقدي والبلاغي القديم عن نقاط التلاقي والتقاطع بينه وبين النقد البنيوي والنصوص النقدية العربية القديمة، وهي كثيرة بنظر الكاتب ولا تحتاج إلى أي تدليل لأن كلاً من النقد العربي القديم والنقد البنيوي يركزان على اللغة وطاقاتها التعبيرية والجمالية وطرائق تشكيلها؛ فكلا النوعين من النقد يعتمدان على المنطق في التحليل وهذا يرجع إلى عهد تواصل الثقافة العربية الإسلامية مع التراث الفلسفي الإغريقي مع إضفاء صبغة إسلامية عليه وتطويعه للنصوص العربية ومدارك العقل العربي. هذا العمل، دراسة مهمة القصد منها ربط معطيات الحداثة بالنقد العربي القديم والاستفادة من بعض جوانبه وكذا فتح الحوار مع تراثنا الأدبي الذي يعاني من التغريب والإهمال وانبهار المثقف العربي أمام الإنجازات الفكرية المعاصرة. وهدف هذا البحث - من خلال إثارته لبعض هذه القضايا - أن يرفع بعض جوانب التحدي الحضاري والثقافي، ومحاولة جادة لقراءة جديدة في بعض نظريات النقد العربي التي لها حضور فعّال في حياتنا الثقافية...
