يواصل "سنجر" في روايته "العبد" غرامه بوضع شخوصه في مآزق متتالية واصفاً ملامحها الإنسانية تحت مجهر مكبر ثم يتأملها وهي تتعامل مع مصائب الحياة والأسئلة الوجودية الكبرى، تدور أحداث "العبد" في القرن السابع عشر إبان انتفاضة "شميلنكي" زعيم الفوارق الذي قاد الإنتفاضة الشعبية في أوكرانيا ضد الإستعمار الإستيطاني البولندي وقات الإحتلال التي كانت تحميه أما المكان فهو قرية بولندية في أعالي الجبال حيث العبودية والمجازر الإجتماعية والعادات والتقاليد البالية التي يحاولالبطل الهروب منها إلى واحة الحب.
