لا يسلّم الناس عادةً بوجود نوع من الكلام الجاد والمفهوم، لا يمكن القول عنه أنه كلام صحيح أو خطأ، أي أن الإعتقاد بصحته يؤدي إلى تناقض وكذلك الإعتقاد بعدم صحته على حدٍ سواء.
بعد قراءة موضوعات هذا الكتاب، سيجد الذهن نفسه أكثر إستعداداً لتقبّل، أو على الأقل لمناقشة، هذه الحقيقة الغربية والصادمة للمنطق السويّ الذي يحكمنا بثنائيته التي لا تقبل الإستثناء: "كل جملة لها معنى إما أن تكون صحيحةً أو أن تكون خطأ".
سوف يضع هذا الكتاب أمام القارئ، حتى وإن كان غير متخصص في المجالات التي أتاح البحث فيها إنتاج المغالطات، عدّةً من المفاهيم والتصورات الذهنية والتصاوير البصرية والمبرهنات المنطقية والمعطيات العلمية والإحصائية التي تبدو سليمةً ولكنها تشتمل على تناقض، أو متناقضةً ولكنها مع ذلك يمكن أن تؤدي إلى نتائج سليمة.
لقد جمع نيكولاس فاليتا الذي يشرف على إصدار عدةٍ من الكتب العلمية مغالطات كثيرةً ومتنوعةً في هذا الكتاب، بعضها تصاوير بصريةٌ مربكةٌ، وبعضها الآخر براهين منطقية توصل إلى تناقض وبعضها الثالث مُستقى من معطيات علمية وإحصائية إشكالية، لتشكّل معاً مساحة تحدٍ وتحفيز للذهن الذي يبحث عن سبيل لإمتلاك البصيرة التحليلية الدقيقة والنافذة، وإني أضعها بين يدي القارئ العربي راجياً أن تكون مفيدةً ومثمرةً.
