إذا ما نظرنا من منظور جدلي للعلاقة بين العلم والمجتمع فنجد أنها علاقة شبكية تنتظم في حوار دائم ينتج العلوم المختلفة، فالحوار بين الإنسان والطبيعة ينتج العلوم الطبيعية، والحوار بين الإنسان والمجتمع الذي يعيش فيه ينتج العلوم الإجتماعية، ويحتاج الأمر بعد ذلك ، لضمان تدفق مستمر لنتائج العلوم، أن نحافظ عليها ونطورها، ونشمن تداولها وتواصلها في مجتمع العلماء أولاً ثم تداولها وتواصلها حتى تصل إلى رجل الشارع، ولا يمكن تحقيق ذلك إلا من خلال عملية تربوية عامة وعملية تعليمية يمارسها النظام التعليمي على وجه الخصوص، ولا يستطيع معلم العلوم أداء هذه المهمة دون أن يكون مكتسباً لمنظومة من القيم التي تعتبر الهدف الحاكم الذي يوجه سلوكه في ممارسته لمهنته.
وهذا الأمر يتطلب باستمرار القيام بعملية التأكد من اكتساب معلمي العلوم لهذه القيم وهذا ما يلقي على البحث العلمي مسئولية المشاركة في تحقيق هذه المهمة، تلك هي المسئولية التي تحملتها مؤلفة الكتاب في بحثها، علماً بأن هذه القيم ليست ثابتة وإنما تصعد بعض القيم في السلم القيمي المستهدف فتحتل مكانة عالية، أو تنحدر على نفس المدرج وتفقد وظيفتها المرجوة، وهذا هو المحك الذي يمكن على أساسه تحديد موقع القيم المختلفة التي يبحث في اكتساب المعلم لها.
وقد جرى تقسيم فصول الكتاب وفقاً لخطة البحث التالية:-
الفصل الأول: التقدم العلمي والتكنولوجي، الفصل الثاني: بعض آثار التقدم العلمي والتكنولوجي، الفصل الثالث: إعداد المعلم ومنظومة القيم المرتبطة بالعمل العلمي، الفصل الرابع: رؤى وتوصيات.
