هذا العمل يطمح إلي إلقاء الضوء علي الصورة والموسيقي في شعر "بلند الحيدري" بوصفهما من أبرز عناصر الشعر، وبخاصة شعر التفعيلة. هذا بالإضافة إلي دورهما في تمييز الشعر عن غيره من الفنون الأخرى، ولكونهما من أرقى درجات الإجادة الشعرية. وقد جاء اختيار الدراسة الفنية- منهجاً- إيماناً بأنهما من أنسب المسالك لدراسة الصورة والموسيقى، فضلاً عن أنها- أي الدراسة الفنية- تتسع للاستفادة من المناهج الأخرى.
كما يطمح العمل إلي أن يكون خطوة في طريق إزالة الغبن عن الشاعر العراقي الكبير "بلند الحيدري"، الذي كان رائداً من رواد شعر التفعيلة، لكنه لم ينل ما يستحقه بين زملائه، علي الرغم من كونه نموذجاً صالحاً للدراسة؛ فقد مر بظروف تجعل منه شاهد عصر علي الأدب العربي في هذه الحقبة الحافلة.
وقد جاء هذا العمل في تمهيد أوجز الحديث عن حياة الشاعر وتجربته الشعرية، ثم فصل يتحدث عن الصورة، ومكوناتها عنده، وقد اشتمل علي أربعة مباحث عن الصورة التراثية، والواقعية، والمجازية، والقصيدة المرئية. ثم جاء الفصل الثاني يتناول الموسيقى، وقد اشتمل علي إحصاء بحور الشعر عنده، ودراسة أبرز هذه البحور في تجربته الشعرية، ثم دراسة بعض الظواهر المؤثرة أو المتأثرة بالموسيقى.
وقد حاولت- قدر طاقتي المتواضعة- الاعتماد علي الذائقة الشخصية، التي ارتوت من بعض المنابع النقدية. وقد يؤخذ علي العمل الإكثار من الشواهد، ولكن إذا تم حساب نسبة هذه الشواهد مقارنة بنتاجه الشعري مكتملاً، فسوف يتضح أن هذه الشواهد ليست بالكثرة التي تدعو إلي الانتقاد.
