يسألونني لماذا أنت متحمس لرءوف عباس؟، أقول: لأنه قدوة ونحن نفتقد القدوة- لأنه إنسان ونحن نفتقد الإنسان، لأنه العطاء ونحن نفتقد العطاء. قائمة شامخة تذكرني بقامات أخرى شامخة، عرفتها وصاحبت أصحابها.. العقاد، حمدان، الهلالي نبيل، بصماته واضحة في كتبه ومقالاته ومترجماته، واضحة كذلك في تلامذته، في الآثار التي خلفها، في كل منصب شغله، وفي كل مهمة نبطت به، لم ينافق أحداً.. لم يجامل.. لم يداهن، كان مرفوع الرأس عملاقاً.
